Our response to the Coronavirus

Dear Friends,

The coronavirus pandemic is presenting many challenges to every aspect of life, including the way we practice our Christian faith. Most Episcopal churches in the state have cancelled Sunday services and are closing their doors to all activities. While I understand the reasons why this is happening, I also believe that the church needs to find creative ways to provide spiritual support and hope to all who are seeking God’s grace. Therefore, I am offering the following:

This Sunday, March 22, I intend to offer a modified worship service at St. Alban’s at 10 AM for those who wish to attend. We will have the essential parts of a Rite II Eucharist, but with modifications to conform to the advice given to churches to prevent the spread of the coronavirus:

  • The church will be opened at 9:45 AM, in order to limit the potential exposure of the virus through social contact.

  • There will be no exchange of the Peace or handshakes.

  • Will ask people to observe the recommended 6’ distance between each other.

  • We will not pass the offering plates by hand; instead, the ushers will hold them at the door as people leave at the end of worship.

  • Holy Communion will be offered in the form of the consecrated Bread only.

  • There will be no “coffee hour” following the service.

We encourage everyone to use their own best judgment as to whether you choose to attend. We fully understand if anyone decides not to come. We are also sending a copy of “A Modified Form of Service for Those Who Cannot Attend Church” so that everyone can at least have the Ministry of the Word part of the service at home.

Please note that this is a rapidly changing situation, and that further modifications to our parish life may be implemented in coming days. We will keep you up to date with any changes.

Yours faithfully in Christ,

Rev. John Peters, Rector
